the Local Union prior to providing a reasonable accommodation to
a qualified bargaining unit employee.
Problem: This is not the case of you being injured on the job. If you have an ailment that puts you into any type of permanent disability status, you need to contact you union representative and begin he process notifying the company and investigating the possibility of finding a different accommodating position within the company so you can continue to earn a paycheck.
Example: I have seen individuals who have been deemed legally blind, to having severe back problems placed inside the UPS facilities and at the same time have the chance to earn a paycheck.
Opinion: Simply put, this is a good program that the union and UPS have negotiated to enable individuals, who unfortunately have had a medical issue prevent them from performing the normal duties, the ability to still work for the company and add to their social security and pension.
