Government agencies that help you

 

The company and the union can not take care of every issue you may run it to as an employee or union member.  There may issues with how the union or company have treated you or things they may not have been taken care of in the manner you expected.  Sometimes the issues you have are ones that can not be taken care of by the union or the company, which means you will have to do the research and leg work yourself in finding and deciding you will use an outside agency to deal with your issue.  The union may be able to assist you in dealing these agencies or in some cases they may not be happy that you are using these agencies in the first place (NLRB).  Either way it is your right and in truth, like your union dues pay for the union, your tax dollars pay for these government agencies, so you should take advantage of the services they offer.

Occupational Safety Health Administration

OSHA is an important agency when it comes to workplace safety.  Knowing the basics about this agency will serve you well in dealing with any workplace situation.

Unfortunately, there rogue agents within the company who feel the workplace is a playground in which they can treat employees any way they feel inorder to accomplish the mission.  Fortunately, there are agencies outside of the union who can help deal with this type of situation.

National Labor Relations Board

This agency covers a wide rage of issues as far as unions and unionism.  They are not necessarily a pro-union agency, but a agency that most definately levels the play field between corporations and unions.  Union members and those who try to organize will find the NLRB a effective agency in enforcing their rights. 

State and Federal Agencies

Are available and willing to assist in a wide rage of personal issues one faces.  Federal and state laws exist to ensure employees are able to take any time of they need for any number of situations one faces over time.  One shoud not have to worry about workplace issues when personal issues need to be dealt with.
